Week 4 Reflective Blog post

On week 4 in Media Studies. I had to begin creating as storyboard showing my ideas for our preliminary task which was to film a scene where a character is walking to a room and is sitting down and having a conversation. One of the things in which went well from our plan is that we had finished it easy and when others had viewed it such as our teacher. He informed that it was good and clear on what exactly you are going to do. However, one of the drawbacks from our storyboard planning is that we had done too many scenes which made our task look a bit longer than it had to be. Below are my storyboards in which i had planned. I also had used these in a previous blog evaluating my preliminary task.

Week 3 Reflective Blog Post

In the third week of Media Studies. We began to plan for our preliminary task. Our preliminary task features a scene where a person is walking into the room and is its down and has a conversation with another person. In this week we looked at examples of what other schools had done for their preliminary task which gave me a clear idea on what to do when i am filming my own preliminary task with Chris Mitsinga. This third week helped me a lot with knowing what to do for my preliminary task because i came up with the idea to make it a person walking into a interviewing room for a role at a job in the office that he badly wants. However, we changed it up a bit we decided to make the interviewee so nervous that he ends up running away from the interview so we could create entertainment towards the audience.

One of the drawbacks from this week was that my partner wasn't it at first. SO i had to sort of plan by myself at first. But when he had returned i told him my idea and we both agreed with it which then led to us making a short plan on what we were exactly going to do.

Evaluation of my preliminary task

Firstly, for my preliminary task i had to create a video of two people entering a room and are having a conversation. For this task my partner was Chris Mitsinga. We usually work well with each other especially on this occasion because it was a important task for us to complete so we put in 100 percent to ensure that we  could do the best that we could with the filming.

One of the things in which went well with my preliminary task is that we managed to finish in time and there was no need to rush anything throughout the period of time that we were given to finalise our editing. However, one of the drawbacks from this preliminary task is that we filmed too much clips which made my video longer than the maximum amount of time we were usually given so i had to cut down some scenes which made the video much better because I could include more transitions between most scenes.

Above is the software in which i used to edit my video. It is called final cut pro. Final cut pro was really good for my editing because it gave me a variety of different things i could have in my video. For example: multiple sounds, animations and transitions. When I first used this software i found it extremely complicated and would think that it would be hard for me to get used to but it's not.

This scene was one of the most challenging scenes out of the other clips to shoot. This was due to us constantly getting the camera shot wrong and not used in the correct time so it took us a while to figure out the best way to shoot this clip which was by using over the shoulder shot to show one character talking at a time.

For this task we decided to base it on someone nervous going to a job interview which displayed by Me and then ends up escaping due to pressure in which is created by the interviewer who is played as Chris. We chose to do this scenario because it would be interesting for our audience to watch and it was completely different to what others previously had done. I think that our preliminary task went well because there was no serious drawbacks which caused us to mess up which was a positive outcome.

Audience Focus Group

Above is our audience focus group where we pitched our idea of our opening sequence to a group of  people that we had chosen. One of the members from our focus group was in the actual opening sequence itself. This had helped us a lot with finalising our ideas because we figured out some errors that we had made like the outcome and plot of the film which we realised it wasn't something new which we decided to change straight away.

Mc Kee's Narrative Structure

McKee's narrative structure

Exposition - protagonists
Our main protagonists are:
Edward - A rich kid who gets involved in drugs. He is played by Fabio.
Bailee - A gang leader who starts dealing with Edward. He is played by Omario.
Douglas (Doug) - A gang member
Raheem (R-Dope) - A gang member

Agents of change -
Our antagonists are the other gang who gets into brawls with the main gang. This secondary gang is called SUK. They are too involved in drugs and start brawling due to drugs.

Conflict -
The conflict occurs when KUS comes and starts to brawl with the main gang. The conflict causes Edward to get into more trouble for he is confused on whether to help his gang or to just leave and let them fight their own battle.

Elaboration -
Huge brawls start to occur over the cocaine. KUS's leader starts the robbery of the cocaine which leaves FAM very annoyed and thus want to seek revenge. Fighting constantly occurs and both clans agree to a decisive battle.

Climax + Resolution

In the final battle, Edward decides that he will help to fight off KUS which leaves him in great danger. In the final battle, Bailee dies along with two members of KUS. R-Dope & Douglas get injured and so leave, leaving only Edward who doesn't back down and takes on the leader of KUS. Both have a fight which ends in Edward getting stabbed and consequently killed.

CODA -

We do not have  a CODA.
