Commissioner Fact File for Film 4

Film 4 is a film production company that has gone through a number of guises since it's inception, along with channel 4  in 1982. It is a company that is independent and uniquely British. Some of the films in which were shown by film 4 in previous decades such as: My beautiful launderette which was between the years 1982 and 1991,  Four weddings and a funeral which was produced between the years 1992 and 1997, Charlotte Gray was between the years 1998 and 2000 and 24 hour party people which is based on a true story which was produced through they years 2002 and 2008 and lastly, four lions which was produced in the present time period which was the 2010's.

Ethos are a set of believes or a way of doing something. Some of Film 4's ethos are: to invest around £500,000 per film, at a rate of roughly around 20 films per year. Another ethos for film 4 is to develop (new) british talent and to be seen as a leader when it comes to innovation.

Some of the themes that are involved with film 4 are themes like: drugs, violence, racism, sexual abuse, gangs and many others. These themes also relate to a british social realism type of film such as Kidulthood, Fish Tank and This is England.

Film 4 is owned by channel 4 ever since film 4 was first created way back in 1982 and have shared a partnership ever since. Film 4 are specialists in co-production and contribute between 15 and 25 percent of an independent film's budget. However, film 4 is not the only company that Channel 4 own the other channels that channel 4 owns are channels such as; More 4, E4 and Channel 4 HD. Channel 4 is also a british terrestrial TV channel. Channel 4 also owns it's own DVD distribution.

All of these films were shown at a certain point on Film4 channel and still shows some of these even up until present day.

The first film in which was produced by film4 was a film called Walters which was directed by Stephen Frears which was released in 1982. Film4 up to today are still a successful company due to the money they make by showing movies on their change; and bringing a larger audience to watch their film which would make film4 more popular and more of a success than it originally was.
